Farmers and donors at Carson City's 3rd Street Farmers Market donated over 400 pounds of fresh produce to the “Feds Feed Families” food drive last weekend for the Ron Wood Family Resource Center food pantry; donations will be accepted again Saturday to benefit the pantry at Friends in Service Helping (FISH).

"With 444 pounds of beautiful fresh produce, we are well on our way to breaking last year's record," said Linda Marrone, the Carson City Farmer's Market Coordinator.  "Our farmers are very generous, and so is are the people who visit the market." The market is located at Third and Curry Street and runs from 8:30-1 p.m. each Saturday.

Donations for fresh produce can be made at Marrone's stand at the farmer's market Saturday morning. Those who donate are eligible to win a farmer's market raffle prize.

Tony Zehring, the manager at the Friends in Service Helping pantry, said fresh produce is always welcomed and will be used both in the FISH kitchen and at the pantry.

Feds Feed Families is organized through the voluntary efforts of federal employees. Participating agencies in Carson City include the General Services Administration, the Bureau of Reclamation, US Geological Survey and USDA-Rural Development. Other agencies are invited to participate.  For more information, contact food drive coordinators Kelly Clark at 887-1222 Ext. 130 or Debbie Blake at 882-3436.
