USDA Announces $7 Million for Seven ND Water Projects

Ryan Taylor, USDA Rural Development state director, announced today that seven recipients received $4.4 million in loans and $3.3 million in grants for water improvement projects across North Dakota. 

“Rural Development is proud to partner with communities to bring them needed, reliable infrastructure,” said Taylor. “North Dakota works best when we are all pulling together. These projects will make life better for the people in rural areas and lays the foundation for their economy to grow and prosper.”

The financing announced today is being delivered through USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program. The projects aim at providing dependable water sources and eliminating health risks. The following list is a breakdown of the funding recipients. 

City of Finley: $64,000 loan and $51,000 grant. The funding will be used to supplement previous USDA financing to remove and replace the community’s water tower.

City of Forman: $564,000 loan and $461,000 grant. The funding will be used to update the water treatment plant and add new water meters.  

City of Harvey: $1,210,000 loan and $952,000 grant. The funding will replace the existing ground storage reservoir, pump house, pumps, controls and appurtenances. The project will also update water meters, well telemetry and computer hardware in the treatment plant.  

City of Leeds: $1,080,000 loan and $910,500 grant. The funding will be used to update and improve the sanitary sewer system. 

City of Michigan: $34,000 loan and $41,000 grant. The funding will be used to supplement previous USDA financing for a water and sewer improvement project.  

City of Rolette: $1,181,000 loan and $929,000 grant. The funding will be used to install a new well for the city and to make water and sewer line improvements. 

Stutsman Rural Water District: $330,400 loan. The funding will be used to supplement previous USDA financing for an expansion and improvement project. 

Since 2010, USDA Rural Development in North Dakota has financed over $104 million to improve water and wastewater systems in more than 40 cities, tribal reservations or water districts. For more information on USDA Rural Development programs, please visit www.rurdev.usda.gov/nd.
