Release Date

Richard A. Machek, USDA Rural Development State Director in Florida, joined local officials in a groundbreaking for the new parking lot on McPherson Street.

The parking lot will be located at the intersection of Jackson and McPherson Street in the city limits of Marianna. This location is within the Historic District of the City and within the Community Redevelopment Area Special District designated by the City of Marianna. The City of Marianna is a State Enterprise Zone and located in a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern.

The paved parking lot will benefit the area’s small and emerging businesses, including a historic restored hotel that serves as an adult assisted living facility for low income households. These improvements will also allow other businesses to continue in operation and will assist in creating jobs for the community. This project will save nine jobs and create six new jobs.

“Congratulations to the city leaders of Marianna for their vision and dedication to improve the city limits,” said Rural Development State Director Richard A. Machek. “USDA is proud to play a small part in the continued success of the city’s future.”

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
