U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner today presented a $7,500 Community Facilities grant to the Reed City Area District Library to purchase media equipment and furniture.

“Internet communication and online teaching resources have given libraries renewed importance, especially in rural areas,” said Turner.  “This investment helps link Reed City area residents to information, education and employment opportunities that are truly global in scope.”

The agency has previously supported water, sewer, fire truck and fire station projects in the area, as well as numerous police vehicles.  Including housing loans and rental assistance, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $29 million in Osceola County since 2009.

USDA Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009.  USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, has a portfolio of programs designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Under the Obama Administration, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $6.1 billion in Michigan projects.
