USDA Rural Development Announces $793,800 Self-Help Housing Grant to Community Concepts, Inc. to Invest in Quality Homeownership for 30 Families

USDA Rural Development State Director Virginia Manuel has announced that the agency is making a $793,800 Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grant to Community Concepts, Inc., to assist them in creating homeownership opportunities.

USDA Rural Development State Director Virginia Manuel said, “This valuable investment in homeownership represents USDA Rural Development’s long-term partnership with Community Concepts, Inc., and will impact individuals and families in five Maine counties, providing them with a foundation to build equity for their futures and set roots in their communities.”

The Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grant Program is used to provide grants to public or private non-profit organizations and Indian Tribes to provide assistance in recruitment, screening, loan packaging, and related activities for prospective self-help housing applicants. This project will allow Community Concepts, Inc. to assist 30 low and very low income families in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec and Oxford Counties achieve homeownership through the Mutual Self-Help Housing Program.

In the past decade, USDA Rural Development has provided a total of five Self-Help Grants to Community Concepts, Inc., investing a total of $5,043,800 in quality homeownership in Maine since Fiscal Year 2005.

USDA Rural Development has Area Offices located in Presque Isle, Bangor, Lewiston, and Scarborough, as well as a State Office, located in Bangor. There are 60 employees working to deliver the agency’s Housing, Business, and Community Programs, which are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, and farmers, and improve the quality of life in rural Maine.
