USDA Rural Development State Director Bobby Goode today presented a $105,000 grant to Calhoun Charleston Hiwassee Historical Society.

“The expansion will greatly enhance community events at the Historical Society and stimulate the economy of the Charleston area,” Goode said. “It will also help preserve and educate citizens and visitors about the rich, historical and cultural traditions of the area.”

The Historical Society received a $20,000 Rural Business Development Grant and an $85,000 Community Facilities Grant to assist with constructing an expansion to the existing historical museum. This addition will allow the Historical Society to add additional exhibits and educational classroom space for visitors and school groups.

Bradley County is one of 53 counties in Tennessee designated for support under USDA’s StrikeForce for Rural Growth and Opportunity initiative.
