USDA Rural Development to host free Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) workshop

USDA Rural Development is scheduled to host a free information workshop on the USDA Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Jan. 30 in the USDA Rural Development Dover state office conference room (1st floor).

USDA Rural Development State Director for Delaware and Maryland, Denise Lovelady, announced that the agency is now accepting applications for the Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program. Nationally, there is approximately $37 million available. Electronic applications must be submitted via by March 5, 2020, and paper applications must be received by March 10, 2020

The VAPG program helps viable agricultural producers enter value-added activities related to the processing and marketing of new agricultural products. The goal of this program is the generate new agricultural products, create and expand marketing opportunities, and increase agricultural producer income.

The Delaware/Maryland Business and Cooperative Program Team will provide an overview and requirements of the VAPG program as well as discuss how partnering organizations such as the Small Business Development Centers and Cooperative Extension Systems can assist businesses with the grant application process, business planning, financial analysis, and market research. Additional assistance and resources may be provided.
