The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is investing $12,000 to help purchase public safety equipment for the 100 Club of Montezuma County.
Today’s investment will allow for 38 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be utilized in the area. There is currently a limited amount of AED’s available for immediate emergency use. Created in 1998, the 100 Club of Montezuma County provided an immediate financial resource to the family or families of all first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty in Montezuma County. Within the past two years the organization has chosen to expand and support the demand and change of attitudes to have more live saving equipment available to prevent the possible deaths.
“Assisting rural areas with the same basic quality of life services like those in urban areas is part of our mission at USDA Rural Development. Ensuring our first responders have the equipment and gear needed to get the job done safely is a key part of our Community Facilities program and having access to these portable devices can help to save lives,” said USDA Rural Development Colorado State Director Sallie Clark. The Community Facilities Program provides loan and grant funding to construct, expand or improve facilities that provide health care, education, public safety, and public services.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
