USDA Rural Development State Director Maxine Moul visited Adam’s Corner Market today in Gibbon, Nebraska to see first-hand the energy efficiency project made possible in part by funding from the USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).  Adam’s Corner Market recently received a $19,841 REAP grant. These funds were leveraged with $59,524 from Affiliated Foods Midwest and Adam’s Corner Market.

“It is great to see how USDA dollars help to accomplish in energy efficiency,” said Moul.  “With the savings in energy costs, those dollars can be reinvested back into the business.”

Funding was used to replace coolers in the market.  An 82% annual energy savings is estimated, reducing 333,046,139 BTU's and increasing profits by $8,582 per year.

“Besides the fact that the new coolers are much more energy efficient, resulting in energy savings, they also present a nicer look for the grocery store that both employees and customers appreciate,” said Adam Fergusen, Adam’s Corner Market.

In federal fiscal year 2015, USDA Rural Development’s Rural Energy for America Program delivered funds to 70 Nebraska projects for $1,806,905 for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
