Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett applauded the Trump Administration’s initiative in combating the opioid crisis. Today, the White House hosted an Opioid Summit to discuss the Administration-wide efforts to combat the opioid crisis. The Opioid Summit featured members of the President’s Administration, individuals who have been affected by the opioid crisis, and addiction- and recovery-focused organizations. Topics covered included the Administration’s efforts in prevention, treatment and recovery, as well as law enforcement and interdiction.
Hazlett issued the following statement:
“I applaud President Trump’s leadership in addressing this enormous challenge. No part of our country has gone untouched by this epidemic, and rural communities have been particularly impacted – from law enforcement to social services and workforce development. As we seek to increase rural prosperity, USDA is committed to partnering with rural leaders in combating the opioid crisis, because it impacts the quality of life and economic opportunity in rural America.”
USDA recently launched a webpage on opioid misuse in rural America featuring resources for rural communities and individuals facing the crisis. You can visit the webpage at www.usda.gov/topics/opioids.
