Janice Daniels, a Rural Housing Specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) based out of the agency’s Berlin office, has been named the New Hampshire Federal Executive Association’s (NH FEA) 2016 Star Performer. The NH FEA is a non-profit organization providing networking, training and recognition to the 8,000 federal employees in New Hampshire.

“I am truly honored to receive an award that recognizes my commitment to the community,” said Daniels. “The North Country has always been my home and I am passionate about helping families purchase homes so they can raise their children here and helping seniors repair and improve their houses so they can continue to live within our tight-knit communities.”

Daniels has worked for USDA Rural Development for 12 years, where she helps low income families in Coos and Grafton counties access homeownership and make home repairs using USDA Rural Development’s low-interest, fixed-rate financing. Originally from Milan, Daniels attended college for health and human services before returning to live and work in the area.  Daniels recently moved to Vermont, but remains stationed in USDA Rural Development’s Berlin office.

USDA Rural Development Housing Program Director Mike Urban said he nominated Daniels to recognize her positive attitude, concern for the customer and dedication to the agency. Urban said Daniels’s  decade-long tradition of holding a community work day at a borrower’s home to celebrate National Homeownership Month is just one of the reasons she should be recognized. Daniels will lead this year’s homeownership event on June 24th in Stark.

The NH FEA also recognized the USDA Rural Development Multi-Family Housing team, including Gilford resident Heather Malone and Concord resident Ivone Feliciano, with the 2016 Outstanding Innovation Award for efforts to preserve rural rental housing opportunities and expand access to the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program at the agency’s rural rental housing facilities. In November 2015, Malone and Feliciano, both based out of the agency’s Concord office, were part of a team that worked to preserve 100 units of affordable rental housing Lebanon.  Earlier in the year, Malone, Feliciano and Maine resident Daphne Feeney, also based in Concord, helped expand the number of sites where children could access free breakfast and lunch during the summer.

The New Hampshire Federal Executive Association is a non-profit organization that was chartered in 1971 to serve as a liaison between the federal agencies within New Hampshire. With more than 8,000 federal employees in New Hampshire alone, the organization acts as a conduit to share information, provides scholarships on an annual basis, provides training, and recognizes outstanding federal employees through the annual Awards program.
