U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Kansas State Director Gimmie Jo Jansonius (Jan-sony-us) participates in a ribbon cutting ceremony today marking the opening of Citizens Medical Center Inc. in Colby. USDA Rural Development awarded $119,133,000 in loans to help make the project possible.

“USDA is committed to ensuring rural Kansans have access to reliable quality health care,” Jansonius said. “The loans provided for this beautiful, state-of-the-art facility will improve healthcare in Colby, northwest Kansas and in neighboring states.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Thursday, Jan. 22, 11:00 a.m., 1525 South Franklin Street, Colby.

Rural Development funding helped Citizens Medical Center construct a 184,000-square-foot replacement hospital and rural healthcare clinic in Colby. The project will deliver quality patient care that meets current and future needs for the area.

This investment is through the USDA Community Facilities Direct Loans and Guaranteed Loans program, which provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area, and does not include private, commercial or business undertakings.
