USDA Rural Development State Director Bobby Goode joined Congressman Stephen Fincher to announce four projects that will benefit the residents of Crockett County in a variety of ways including new water sources, wastewater management, natural gas lines, and a Senior Citizen Center expansion.

“Infrastructure investments put people to work now and creates the foundation of public utilities and services that are vital to the future of every healthy community,” Goode said.

A $36,000 grant from the Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program will help Crockett County expand the Senior Citizens Center adding an exercise floor, equipment, multi-purpose room, and handicap restrooms.  Crockett Public Utility District is to receive $1,530,000 in program loan funds to extend natural gas lines to serve additional customers.

The Rural Utilities Service Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program is providing $3,819,000 in loan and grant funds to County Wide Utility District to repair or replace water treatment plants and waterlines, and install four new wells.  The City of Friendship will use $903,000 loan and grant funds to construct a sewer transmission line to nearby Dyersburg, TN. The project will allow the City to decommission its treatment plant and concentrate efforts on wastewater collection.

Crockett County is one of 53 counties in Tennessee designated for support under USDA’s StrikeForce for Rural Growth and Opportunity initiative, which aims to increase investments in rural communities through intensive outreach and strong partnerships with community leaders, businesses, foundations and other groups that are working to combat persistent poverty.
