Goldenrod Regional Housing Agency Named Manager of the Year by USDA Rural Development

Name
Vicki Schurman
City
Pilger
Release Date

Goldenrod Regional Housing Agency today was named the 2016 Nebraska Manager of the Year for Family Housing.  Goldenrod is the Manager of Maplewood Apartments in Pilger, Nebraska.

USDA Rural Development Multi-Family Housing Specialist Kimberly Fehringer presented the agency with a plaque at the apartments and offered her personal congratulations for receiving the award. Helping to honor Goldenrod at the presentation were board members, family, tenants and others.

“Goldenrod provides dedicated management to care for the tenants of Maplewood Apartments.  Staff are very timely on their reports and thorough in their certifications,” said Fehringer.  “Goldenrod helps to provide an essential housing asset to the community.”

“Charla Nedza and Kendra One Horn, with the agency, are always welcoming and friendly and that is conveyed to the tenants as well as the community.  They have helped make Maplewood a success by working very diligently to ensure that the project is well taken care of and fully occupied,” added Fehringer.

When the twin tornados hit Pilger in 2014 the community was devastated. Maplewood Apartments had to be stripped down and redone and the roof replaced. Goldenrod Regional Housing Agency needed help with the repair costs not covered by insurance and USDA Rural Development was able to provide the assistance needed. Because of this teamwork, the units were repaired promptly and the tenants returned back to their apartments.

The rehabilitation and returning the tenants to the units helped spur some hope to the devastated community.  Pilger is having its ‘re-grand opening’ celebration this month.
