A groundbreaking ceremony today in Storm Lake celebrated an upcoming expansion and remodeling project at Methodist Manor Retirement Community that will greatly enhance healthcare options for hundreds of northwest Iowa residents.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development awarded a $25 million loan to Methodist Manor Retirement Community that will be used to construct a new a three-story, 93-bed long-term care facility expansion, demolish existing portions of the campus and extensively remodel other areas of the facility.
“Access to quality healthcare is critical for rural Iowans and the communities in which they reside,” said Bill Menner, USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa. “Helping leaders in communities such as Storm Lake identify ways to improve these opportunities for rural Iowans is an important emphasis at USDA Rural Development.”
The expansion and remodeling will implement the latest technologies so staff can continue to provide high-quality senior care in the state-of-the-art facility. There will also be private rooms, improved access to skilled care, as well as a beautiful view of Storm Lake.
The Methodist Manor Retirement Community is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community offering multi-level services for older adults including independent living, assisted living and skilled care.
During the past seven years USDA has supported major facility or equipment improvements at more than 100 rural Iowa hospitals, medical clinics, nursing homes and/or assisted living facilities with around $430 million in funding.

Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $4 billion on essential public facilities, small and emerging businesses, water and sewer systems, and housing opportunities for Iowa families.

This past year USDA Rural Development’s investment in Iowa helped create or retain more than 1,000 jobs, aided 2,400 families in buying their own homes and assisted more than 60 communities as they made improvements to their facilities, services and infrastructure.
