“Looking back over the years, the technological advancements made at USDA have been phenomenal,” said USDA Rural Development Single Family Housing Director Janell Telin. “The partnerships developed to accomplish the enhancements made in each of the programs – housing, business, and utilities – are endless. It is a prime example of how working together can maximize the funds brought into rural South Dakota.”
Telin was recently recognized by Bruce Jones, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development South Dakota Acting State Director, for 30 years of dedicated service to the federal government. Telin began her federal career in 1985 with Farm Service Agency and then transferring to USDA Rural Development in 2001.
“Janell is a highly driven and motivated individual and possesses great leadership skills,” said USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Bruce Jones. “Janell strives to expand, improve, and expedite the services of Rural Development to rural South Dakotans,” said Jones. “In addition, she is a technical expert and a real asset to our agency.”
Janell is currently the Single Family Housing Director based out of the Huron State Office. Previous positions held in the Agency include specialist, manager and acting area director.
Janell’s greatest career achievements include working with hospitals, housing complexes, water/sewer system replacements, creating new infrastructure, bringing indoor water and sewer to places where it was nonexistent before, working in the StrikeForce areas by creating business opportunities and jobs, working with the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe to create a multi-million dollar facility to house 26 agencies including daycare, school and college enhancement programs. “I am proud of all of these achievements and will continue to strive to deliver the agency’s programs to the areas of highest need as well as throughout all of rural South Dakota,” Telin said.
Janell and Don reside in Britton, SD. She has two sons Troy (Miranda) and Tyson.; and two grandsons Gavin and Christian. In her free time she loves family time from the grandsons to extended family as well as with friends. Enjoying a game of golf or time on the lake playing or fishing in the fresh air is also a favorite energizing pastime.
