Release Date

Julie Gockley today was announced as the 2016 Honorable Mention Nebraska Manager of the Year for Family Housing by the Multi-Family Housing Program at USDA Rural Development.  Julie is the Manager of Sunrise Apartments #2 in Imperial, Nebraska.

Nebraska State Director for USDA Rural Development Maxine Moul presented Julie with a certificate at the Imperial Housing Authority office and offered her personal congratulations for receiving the award.  Helping to honor Julie at the presentation were board members, tenants and others.

Julie has managed Sunrise Apartments #2 for eight years.  The apartments received a rehabilitation/repair loan in 2011 through the Multi-Family Housing Preservation and Revitalization Restructuring Program (MPR).  Without Julie’s management it would not have been possible to complete the installation of new siding, replace the roof and windows, complete landscape improvements, and replace the parking lot.  Today, Julie is working on the remodel of the old office and laundry room into a larger laundry room.  Even when it was hard to get bids for the rehab work she was able to make calls and find a contractor to complete the work.  At no time were tenants displaced from their apartments during the improvements, according to Multi-Family Housing Specialist Cynthia Ross.

“Julie is very active in the community as she volunteers on various local boards.  The Board Chairman commented that Julie is great to work with,” said Ross.  “Julie takes pride in being in compliance and in meeting all time frames with Rural Development.  She usually is ahead of schedule with the reporting requirements.  Her work is thorough, concise and easy to follow.”

Ross continued, “The tenants say Julie is a great person to work with as she tries to assist them at all times, day or night.  Many of her tenants are bilingual and she is able to communicate with them.  Julie enjoys being able to satisfy the tenants needs, such as with the rehab work completed.  The tenants comment on how nice their units are and they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.”
