An Open House marked the completion of extensive renovation and new ownership of Mt. Pleasant Village Apartments today. USDA Rural Development Area Director Faye McEwen joined owners Russell and Dana Holloway in the celebration.
A $798,000 USDA Rural Development Multi-Family Housing Direct Loan combined with Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) funding allowed extensive rehabilitation of the property that provides 8 one-bedroom units and 24 two-bedroom units.
"It is often a challenge to find safe, affordable rental housing in our rural communities,” McEwen said. “THDA and the Holloways have been great partners, marshaling resources to make the needed improvements and literally transform this complex.”
Practically stripped down to the studs and rebuilt, the units were given a clean modern look with wood grain vinyl plank floors throughout, new interior and exterior doors and windows, new appliances including the addition of dishwashers, new HVAC units and water heaters, and new cabinets and countertops. The units designated as handicap accessible now have the required features to make them fully accessible, and handicap parking, accessible sidewalks, and stairways have been added along with new playground equipment and picnic area for the residents.
Others participating in the event include Maury County Chamber of Commerce Director Kara Huckaby, Tennessee Housing Development Agency Representative Denise McBride, Regions Bank Vice-President Sarah McKenzie, Mt. Pleasant Fire Chief Tim Smith, Doss Brothers Construction President Barry Doss, and USDA Rural Development staff Beverly Peterson and Morgan Buhaly.
