Release Date

USDA Rural Development State Director Bobby Goode joined Congressman Diane Black and Trousdale County Mayor Carroll Carman at a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction to renovate and expand the existing wastewater treatment facility.  This project will provide improved wastewater treatment to existing customers as well as provide adequate service for the prison that is currently under construction.

"Making infrastructure investments like these not only provides for improved water treatment and distribution, it puts people to work and lays the foundation for continued sustainable growth," Goode said.

Through Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program, USDA is providing a $3,605,000 loan and $957,000 grant to be combined with additional funding from the State of Tennessee and Corrections Corporation of America.

Trousdale County is one of 53 counties in Tennessee designated for support under USDA’s StrikeForce for Rural Growth and Opportunity initiative, which aims to increase investments in rural communities through intensive outreach and strong partnerships with community leaders, businesses, foundations and other groups that are working to combat persistent poverty.

Others participating in the event include State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver, representatives of Hartsville Trousdale Utility District and Highway Department, Four Lake Regional Industrial Development, and USDA Rural Development Nashville Area Office staff.

USDA Rural Development is moving investments to rural America with housing, business and infrastructure loans and grants to create jobs and strengthen rural economies with an emphasis to assist areas of persistent poverty.  Since 2009, the agency has assisted more than 1.5 million Tennessee families and businesses in 230 communities in all 95 counties of Tennessee, investing more than $5.4 billion through affordable loans, loan guarantees and grants.
