Funding will Help with Economic Development and Rural Water and Wastewater Systems in Northern Maine

The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing funding to Northern Maine Development Commission.

USDA Rural Development State Director Timothy P. Hobbs said, “This funding through the Trump Administration will help the Northern Maine Development Commission provide critical training that will ultimately ensure access to quality water and wastewater systems, enhance economic development opportunities, and contribute to the overall rural prosperity in the communities served.”

Northern Maine Development Commission, located in Caribou, will receive two grants, totaling $130,000:

  • Water and Waste Technical Assistance and Training Grant in the amount of $80,000: This USDA Rural Development investment will be used to provide a program of technical assistance and training to municipalities and water/wastewater districts in developing applications for federal and/or state funding that will lead to safe drinking water supplies, improvements to wastewater disposal systems, training for new personnel, and public education of Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances contamination.
  • Rural Community Development Initiative Grant in the amount of $50,000: This Rural Development investment will be used to provide training and technical assistance to 31 very low and low-income municipal and economic development recipients through one-on-one meetings focused on building local and economic development programs, public infrastructure and public facility development, and planning for sustainable development that will allow recipients to better assist the communities they serve. Recipients will be trained in all aspects of planning, developing and implementing a successful community and/or economic development projects designed to achieve its community goals.
