Project Will Improve Rural Water Infrastructure for 5,780 Rural Residents and Businesses

TEMPLE, Sept. 22, 2020 – The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $268 million to modernize rural drinking water and wastewater infrastructure across 28 states. State Director Edd Hargett announced this includes one project in Breckenridge, Texas.

“USDA understands that safe and reliable water infrastructure is vital in order for our rural communities to thrive,” Hargett said. “The investment announced today demonstrates our commitment to improving essential water services that will enhance the prosperity of rural Texans, because we know that when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”

Background:

USDA is funding 76 projects through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. These investments will help to improve rural water infrastructure for 267,000 residents.

In Texas, Stephens Regional Special Utility District (SUD) will use a $6.6 million loan and $4.1 million grant to install approximately 270,000 linear feet of water lines, a new pump station, a ground storage tank, a hydropneumatics tank, all appurtenances, and 48 new water connections. This project will improve the water pressures and supply in the Necessity pressure plane area. The SUD is located in the city of Breckenridge and serves approximately 5,780 customers in Stephens, Throckmorton, Palo Pinto, Young, Shackelford, and Eastland Counties.
