Trump Administration Invests $13M in Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants in Mineral and Upshur Counties

The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing more than $13 million in Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants in several rural West Virginia communities.

The New Creek Water Association in Mineral County will receive a $3.4 million Water and Waste Disposal Loan and a $996,000 Water and Waste Disposal Grant. The investment will assist the New Creek Water Association replace waterlines, pump stations and a water tank. This upgrade will benefit 3,501 customers in the area.

The Adrian Public Service District (PSD) in Upshur County will receive a $4.9 million Water and Waste Disposal Loan and a $3.8 million Water and Waste Disposal Grant. The investment will assist the Adrian PSD add and improve water service to 5,791 customers in both Upshur and Randolph counties. One of the new customers will be the Pickens School, who currently uses well water and has to have a water operator on staff to provide an adequate supply of water during school hours.

“The positive impact these investments will have on the youth at the Pickens School and the rural communities in Mineral and Upshur counties is paramount,” said Kris Warner, West Virginia State Director, USDA Rural Development. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly here in the Mountain State to be a strong partner to rural West Virginia businesses, which helps build stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural West Virginia thrives, all of America thrives.”

These projects are part of 17 different Water and Waste Disposal loans and grants across the state, with a combined statewide total of more than $33.7 million in loans and $26.5 million in grants.

Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.
