TEMPLE, TX Oct. 15, 2020 – The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing over $2 million to improve essential community facilities in Floresville, Texas. USDA is providing the funding through the Community Facilities Loan and Grant program.
“By utilizing the community facilities programs, projects such as these provide citizens modern and reliable infrastructure vital to ensuring rural prosperity in Texas,” said State Director Edd Hargett. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Texas in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
Recipients can use Community Facility funding for projects to purchase, construct, and / or improve essential community facilities, purchase equipment and pay related project expenses. Examples of essential community facilities include health care facilities, public facilities, educational services, local food systems and more.
Atascosa Health Center, Inc., will use a $2 million loan to construct a medical, behavioral health, and dental clinic in Floresville, Texas. The entity currently leases a medical clinic in Floresville; however, the clinic needs to enlarge to increase their primary health care, address identifiable health disparities, and improve the health and well-being of individuals, families, and the community. The services also include pharmacy care, family planning and obstetrics, immunizations, nutrition, chronic disease self-management patient education, and community health promotion and educational classes. Atascosa Health Center will continue to provide service in Wilson County benefiting 42,900 people.
The City of Floresville is receiving a $41,800 grant to replace 17 computer tablets in the law enforcement department's vehicles. The tablets will support Windows Software in providing accurate information to serve the 6,400 residents of Floresville.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
