Investment to Help Access to Essential Community Services
TEMPLE, TX Oct. 20, 2020 – The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $3 million to improve essential community facilities in Florence, Texas. USDA is providing the funding through the Community Facilities Loan and Grant program.
“By utilizing the community facilities programs, projects like this provide citizens modern and reliable infrastructure vital to ensuring rural prosperity in Texas,” said State Director Edd Hargett. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Texas in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
Recipients can use Community Facility funding for projects to purchase, construct, and / or improve essential community facilities, purchase equipment and pay related project expenses. Examples of essential community facilities include health care facilities, public facilities, educational services, local food systems and more.
The City of Florence will use a $3,000,000 loan to construct a two-story municipal facility which will house city hall, council chambers, and the police station. The facility will be located at the current location of city hall. The facility will address any outstanding accessibility and health issues and create efficiencies for the city's operations to serve the 1,100 residents of Florence.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
