Trump Administration Invests $305,271 in Rural Nevada Business Enterprise

USDA Rural Development State Director Phil Cowee has announced $305,271 in grant funds for nine projects that will help Tribes cities and counties to develop rural enterprise and create 52 jobs.  The types of projects approved varied greatly, from feasibility studies for marketing and development of a natural gas line to business development, tribal business training and broadband deployment.

“These are important investments for rural Nevada,” said State Director Phil Cowee. “I am impressed by the variety of small business start-ups that will result from cities, counties and Tribes stepping up to support business expansion.”

Rural Business Development Grant projects funded included:

Elko Band was approved for a $68,500 grant to fund a feasibility study to determine the viability for multiple small tribal businesses.

The Indian Dispute Resolution Service will receive $94,771 for two projects to provide on-site business training and technical assistance to Nevada tribes and tribal members to assist in small business start-up and expansion.

Churchill and Douglas County were each approved for funds in the amount of $20,000, one to conduct business attraction activities; the other to complete a regional market analysis and marketing strategy.

Nye County Regional Economic Development Authority was approved for a $30,000 Rural Business Development Grant to establish a new revolving loan fund in Esmeralda County and continue support to Nye County for an existing revolving loan fund. These funds help to finance and facilitate development of small and emerging private businesses in communities of Esmeralda and Nye counties. The revolving loan funds are re-distributed to rural businesses as micro-loans to support enterprise and expansion.

Tahoe Prosperity a nonprofit in the Tahoe Basin was approved for a $20,000 grant to promote broadband deployment and expand access to wireless data across the Tahoe Basin, thereby increasing opportunity in the region.

West Wendover Natural Gas Line Feasibility Study will help the City of West Wendover . The city was approved for a $37,000 grant to complete a feasibility study to determine the viability of natural gas installation for the West Wendover/Wells service territory.

RNDC I-80 Marketing Expansion/Opening Elko Office

The Rural Nevada Development Corporation was approved for a $15,000 grant to expand services in the Elko area. this Rural Development investment will be used to expand Rural Nevada Development Corporation’s (RNDC) lending program by providing additional outreach and marketing from an Elko office. Specifically, the funds will be used for technical assistance for a new position within the RNDC to serve the I-80 Corridor in Northern Nevada between Fernley and West Wendover. The position will serve the communities of Lovelock, Imlay, Winnemucca, Golconda, Battle Mountain, Crescent Valley, Carlin, Elko, Ryndon, Wells, Oasis and West Wendover.
