Investment to Help 1,543 Have Access to Distance Learning Classrooms
WASHINGTON, N.C., October 22, 2020 – The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $329 thousand to help residents gain access to health care and educational opportunities in rural North Carolina.
“The distance learning classrooms BCCC will help rural residents have access to the quality education being offered here,” said USDA Rural Development State Director Robert Hosford. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural North Carolina in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
In rural North Carolina, Beaufort County Community College will use a $329 thousand Distance Learning Telemedicine Grant to assist the school with their "Increased Access to Distance Learning in Eastern North Carolina" Project. BCCC will purchase equipment to create two distance learning classrooms on the main campus and place a telecommunication cart at each of the six end-user site schools.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
