Investment to Promote Rural Economic Growth
The Trump Administration along with Florida/U.S. Virgin Islands State Director Phil Leary has announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $554,714 to assist small and emerging businesses in rural Florida. USDA is providing the funding through Rural Development’s Rural Business Development Grant program.
“Small and emerging businesses are the backbone to our rural towns, communities, and families,” said Phil Leary, State Director for Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA is making it our mission to help local Floridians live the dream of owning a business. Rural Development employees work hard every day to help our rural areas because we know that when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
The following is an example of a project being funded under today’s announcement:
- In Greenville, a $199,000 grant will be utilized to purchase essential equipment for a small new grocery store. Clover Farm Greenville, Inc. will sell grocery store merchandise in an area that is currently not served by a full-line grocery store. This project will create 11 jobs in the town of Greenville, Fla.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
