Investment to Help Numerous Communities and Residents Across the State

The Trump Administration along with Florida/U.S. Virgin Islands State Director Phil Leary has announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing over $7.5 million for essential community facilities in rural Florida.  USDA is providing the funding through Rural Development’s Community Facilities Loan and Grant Programs.

“Our rural communities often have very limited assets and funds to provide essential services to our communities,” said Phil Leary, State Director for Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA is committed to being a vital partner to these communities and providing an avenue to meet these needs because we know that when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”

The following are examples of projects being funded under today’s announcement:

  • Gulf Coast Children’s Advocacy Center is receiving a $198,100 Community Facilities Disaster Grant that will be used to provide additional financing for the construction of a facility that will provide essential services to victims of child abuse and their families. The additional funds are needed due to damages sustained by Hurricane Michael to a building which was to be rehabilitated with Rural Development funds.  Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center is a community based non-profit organization.  The addition of the new facility will allow for increased capabilities and provide improved services to the citizens serviced by the facility.

  • In Florida, the City of Perry will receive a $64,600 Community Facilities Grant to purchase two fully equipped police vehicles and related equipment.  The existing vehicles have high mileage, are experiencing increased down time due to maintenance issues, and have been a safety concern for the city. The new vehicles will provide improved emergency response services to the residents of the city, as well as increased safety for patrol officers.

  • The Town of Campbellton will receive a $20,000 Community Facilities Grant to replace a roof for a multi-use facility that was damaged by Hurricane Michael.  This facility serves as a community center and a fire station for the small rural community.  The replacement of the roof will enable the town to provide continued services to the residents of Campbellton.
