Investment to Modernize Water Infrastructure for more than 200 Rural Missourians
COLUMBIA, MO, Oct. 21, 2020 – The Trump Administration, along with Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development State Director for Missouri Jeff Case, today announced that the USDA is investing $79,000 to complete improvements to the Village of Preston’s water system. This additional award brings USDA’s total investment to $645,000 for this project.
“Modernizing the infrastructure that delivers safe drinking water to rural Missourians is vital to the public health, economic development, and prosperity of the state’s small towns and cities,” said Trump Administration Official State Director Case. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Missouri in building stronger and healthier communities, like the village of Preston, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
USDA is providing the village of Preston a $79,000 loan through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program to complete improvements to the village’s water production and storage system. The well house and existing standpipe are aging and insufficient for the needs of Preston’s citizens. Improvements include construction of a bolted steel standpipe, enhancements to the well house structure, new well pump controllers, installation of a liquid chlorination system, and installation of a standby generator in case of power loss. These improvements will help to provide safe, clean, potable water to Preston’s citizens for many years to come.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
