Investment to Improve Water Infrastructure & Purchase Patrol Vehicle

COLUMBIA, MO, Oct. 16, 2020 – The Trump Administration, along with Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development State Director for Missouri Jeff Case, today announced that the USDA is investing $833,800 to the city of Hamilton to improve essential infrastructure and services for more than 1,800 rural Missourians.

“Missouri’s rural communities cannot thrive without doing all they can to offer their residents modern, reliable infrastructure and essential services,” said Case.  “By investing in small towns, like Hamilton, USDA Rural Development is their partner in rural prosperity, ensuring residents have modern infrastructure, equipment, and public safety services in the communities they call home.  Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Missouri in building stronger and healthier communities because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”

USDA is providing the city of Hamilton an $833,800 loan through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program that will be used to complete improvements to the city’s aging water distribution system.  Improvements include updating 13 miles of water distribution line and installing several flush hydrants, new valves, and road bores.  These improvements will help provide safe, clean potable drinking water to Hamilton’s citizens.  This additional award brings USDA’s total investment to $3,929,000 for this project; Missouri Department of Economic Development also partnered in the project, contributing a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant.

The city will also use a $14,800 Community Facilities Economic Impact Initiative Grant to purchase a fully-equipped patrol vehicle for its law enforcement personnel. This purchase will expand the city’s fleet, as Hamilton currently only has one functioning patrol vehicle.  The additional vehicle will help law enforcement personnel improve efficiency, cover more area, and ensure the safety of city citizens and visitors alike.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
