“The investment announced today demonstrates our commitment to improving essential water services that will enhance the prosperity of rural Texans,” said State Director Edd Hargett. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Texas in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
Recipients can use Water and Waste Disposal funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.
Olmito Water Supply Corporation (WSC) in Cameron County will use a $8,436,000 loan to construct a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The plant will use a new technology consisting of a mechanical WWTP utilizing UV light disinfectant technology. In addition to the WWTP, the administration building will be upsized from 800sf to 1,200sf and the pavement at the site will be redone in areas where its failing. The existing WWTP is nearing its 90% usage threshold, resulting from a rapidly growing population. Olmito WSC serves 9,360 rural residents.
