Trump Administration Invests more than $1.2 Million in Rural Business Development Grant Funding in Rural New York

The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing more than $1.2 Million in grant funding to provide equipment, technical assistance and training opportunities in rural New York.

“Rural Development is proud to collaborate with small business, business development organizations as well as our educational partners in New York,” said State Director Richard Mayfield. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural NY in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”

Rural Business Development Grant Project examples in New York include:

  • SUNY Cobleskill       This Rural Development investment of $92,520 will be used to assist the State University of New York at Cobleskill’s Research Foundation in completing the outfitting of their Farm Product Development Center. SUNY Cobleskill is located in rural Schoharie County. Funds will be used to purchase and install bottling as well as dry packaging equipment. As a result of this investment an estimated 20 jobs will be created.
  • Essex County IDA     This Rural Development investment of $300,000 will be used by the Essex County Industrial Development Agency to facilitate the startup, expansion and retention of business activity within Essex County. As a result of this investment an estimated 53 jobs will be created.
  • Lewis County Development Corporation              This Rural Development investment of $99,950 will be used to purchase equipment to be leased to Black River Valley Natural (BVRN) to expand their creamery operation. Funding will allow for the purchase of local milk, a cooler, a freezer and climate-controlled storage equipment for cheese making. As a result of this investment an estimated 7 jobs will be created.
  • Mohawk Valley Edge           This Rural Development investment of $99,966 will be used to purchase camera and printer equipment for lease to One Pull Solutions Wire & Cable LLC of Rome, NY. This equipment acquisition will allow expansion of the bundled wire production line as well as three additional production lines to reach full commercialization. As a result of this investment an estimated 14 jobs will be created.
  • Pace University         This Rural Development investment of $29,266 will be used to provide pro bono legal services and legal training programs for small and emerging private rural farm, food and beverage businesses through the university’s Food & Beverage Law Clinic. As a result of this investment an estimated 57 jobs will be created.
  • Partnership for Community Development  This Rural Development investment of $70,000 will be used to assist small businesses in Madison County, NY in improving their online presence. Assistance will be provided in the form of technical assistance with website design, online ordering, social media marketing and other projects to expand small local business online presence.
  • St. Lawrence County IDA    This Rural Development investment of $57,000 will be used by the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency to fund a Class A tractor trailer training at the Career Ready Education and Success Training Center (CREST) at the State University of New York at Canton. Funding will support 12 students to obtain the necessary skills to pass the New York State Class A tractor trailer driving examination. As a result of this investment an estimated 12 jobs will be created.
  • Ticonderoga Revitalization Alliance          This Rural Development investment of $99,528 to fund vocational training for Ticonderoga Revitalization Alliance’s Trade Education Access Program. Funds will provide tuition for 8 high school 2020/2021 academic year seniors. As a result of this investment an estimated 24 jobs will be created.
  • Village of Perry         This Rural Development investment of $99,900 will be used to develop a digital trail mapping tool as well as trail town ambassador training program in the Genesee Valley. The Letchworth Gateway Villages initiative is a municipal consortium formed in 2016 by the NY Village of Perry, Mount Morris and Geneseo to catalyze economic growth and new tourism related opportunities. The project will improve visibility of the recreational trails, attract high value and strategic market segments, encourage longer visitation to the region. As a result of this investment an estimated 24 jobs will be created.
  • Sullivan County Visitors Association         This Rural Development investment of $298,833 will fund three projects that includes $99,800 to purchase various office related equipment for a small business incubator. This incubator will allow for small businesses in Sullivan County to utilize conference space, equipment and technology at no charge. Additionally, $99,995 will be used to hire professional consultants as well as purchase software to conduct 12 workshops for small businesses in the county. Finally, $99,038 will be used to conduct a feasibility study and recommend a strategic plan for the county. Combined, these projects will save or create over 200 area jobs.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
