The United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Kentucky State Director Hilda Legg yesterday announced the Trump administration awarded $18,156 in Rural Energy for America Program grants to three businesses in Warren County, Kentucky.

“Lowering energy costs means rural businesses have more capital to invest in jobs and growth. These are the kinds of investments that have long-term benefits not only for the individual business but our rural communities as well,” said Legg. “Thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA Rural Development continues to be a valuable partner in helping rural businesses and communities across the commonwealth.”

Rex Howard will use a $5,857 grant to help replace inefficient ventilation fans in his broiler breeder houses. The project will save approximately $3,041 per year.

Bluegrass Vineyard Management LLC will use an $8,122 grant to help purchase and install a 14.4 kW solar system. The project will generate and replace approximately 20,000 kWh of energy per year.

Edgehill Farms Inc. will use a $4,177 grant to help purchase and install an 11.59 kW solar system. The project will generate and replace approximately 14,450 kWh of energy per year.

The Rural Energy for America Program provides funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems or to make energy efficiency improvements. This program helps businesses improve their bottom line by lowering the cost of energy over time. The program also helps increase American energy independence by increasing the private sector supply of renewable energy and decreasing the demand for energy through energy efficiency improvements.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
