Funding will Benefit over 19,000 Rural
South Dakota Residents
MOBRIDGE, S.D., Oct. 26, 2020 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development South Dakota State Director Julie Gross announced today through a virtual event that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing over $37.5 million in the Mobridge Regional Hospital to renovate and expand their existing facility.
“Healthcare is important to a community’s quality of life and economic development is critical to the rural prosperity within the community,” said USDA Rural Development South Dakota State Director Julie Gross. “This project will provide a broad range of medical services and save/create 154 jobs in this rural South Dakota community. Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural South Dakota in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
The Mobridge Regional Hospital will utilize a USDA Rural Development Community Facilities direct loan of $30,074,000 and a guaranteed loan of $7,518,000, leveraged with an applicant contribution of $5,000,000 for a total project cost of $42,592,000, to renovate and expand their existing facility in order to enhance patient care, improve employee workflow, and optimize operational efficiency.
More than 100 types of projects are eligible for Community Facilities funding. Eligible applicants include municipalities, public bodies, nonprofit organizations and federally recognized Native American tribes. Projects must be in rural areas with a population of 20,000 or less.
