The City of Coalville celebrated the completion of their new wastewater treatment facility with a ribbon cutting and public open house event. City officials including Coalville Mayor Trever Johnson joined Federal, State, and local government representatives to mark the occasion and celebrate a project that has taken years to complete.

With the impending expiration of a 50-year land lease with the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, the city required a new location to build a wastewater treatment facility. In addition to this concern, city leaders identified that the old facility was not up to standards for sustaining future growth of the area and would require extensive maintenance costs should they continue to use it. “We couldn’t allow more houses to be built,” said Mayor Johnson. The facility had to be replaced if Coalville was to experience any growth.

In 2013 USDA Rural Development provided a combined loan and grant of $1,759,000 by way of the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program to assist Coalville in purchasing land and constructing a new treatment facility. The project was funded by state and federal agencies and is capable of providing efficient, safe wastewater treatment services well into the future.

“This waste water treatment facility is just one great example of how USDA Rural Development partners with other funding sources to get a job done,” said USDA Rural Development State Director Dave Conine. “Immediate needs can be met when the right people get together and we’re so proud to be part of this project that will help Coalville achieve their future goals.”
