U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner today announced a $6 million direct loan to construct a new township hall for Montrose Charter Township. The loan is funded through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities Program and carries a 40-year term at 3.5 percent interest.
The new structure will combine fire, police and administrative services. It will also be more accessible, occupy a more central location in the township and feature improved parking.
“USDA Rural Development is pleased to be helping Montrose Township consolidate their services and provide better accessibility,” said Turner. “This project is part of more than $17 million we have invested so far this year in Michigan communities.”
USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities Program provides direct and guaranteed loans and grants to finance more than 80 different types of essential community facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, health clinics; police, fire or rescue facilities, equipment or vehicles; libraries; and municipal or county buildings. Applicants may be public bodies or non-profit groups in rural communities with no more than 20,000 residents.
USDA Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009. USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, has a portfolio of programs designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Under the Obama Administration, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $6.5 billion in Michigan projects.
