Ryan Taylor, USDA Rural Development state director, announced today that the City of St. John will receive a $50,000 emergency water grant to drill a new water source for the community.
“Water is an essential resource, so Rural Development is proud to financially support St. John in their time of need,” said Taylor. “Responding quickly to the community’s request, this investment will help secure a reliable water supply.”
At the end of September, one of two wells serving the 341 residents of St. John stopped producing water. Using USDA’s Emergency Community Water Assistance Grant program, the city was able to secure funding to drill a new well to provide the quality and quantity of water needed to meet the community’s demand.
Since 2010, USDA Rural Development in North Dakota has financed over $104 million to improve water and wastewater systems in more than 40 cities, tribal reservations or water districts. For more information on USDA Rural Development programs, please visit http://www.rd.usda.gov/nd.
