Water grant announcement in Sturgis, Kentucky

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Kentucky State Director Travis T. Burton today announced a $60,000 grant in Union County.

The Predevelopment Planning Grant will help the city determine the best way to supply safe, reliable and affordable water services.

“These planning grants really help small rural communities get an idea of how best to address water infrastructure needs,” said Burton. “Thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Rollins, USDA Rural Development continues to make investments, large and small, in rural water systems.”

The city of Sturgis will use the $60,000 grant to a develop preliminary engineering report, environmental report, and aquifer source study as well as receive technical assistance with future application processing.

To date in this administration, USDA Rural Development has invested over $65.4 million through various Water & Environmental Programs across rural Kentucky. These programs provide funding for the construction of water and waste facilities in rural communities and are the only federal programs exclusively focused on rural water and waste infrastructure needs of rural communities with populations of 10,000 or less.
