U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner today joined local community leaders and Horizon Bank representatives to celebrate the opening of a residential probation center in Three Rivers.
“This community based probation center will allow additional sentencing options for the court system,” said Turner. “Not all crimes deserve jail or prison sentences as punishment. This community based facility will allow residents to receive the treatment they need without leaving their families and support systems for extended periods of time.”
USDA Rural Development provided a $2.1 million Community Facilities loan guarantee in partnership with Horizon Bank to support the project. The new facility will offer separate sections for men and women to receive treatment and programmatic services.
USDA Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009. USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, has a portfolio of programs designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Under the Obama Administration, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $7.2 billion in Michigan projects.
