U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan Brandon Fewins today joined community leaders in celebrating the groundbreaking for a new water tower in South Haven.
“This project represents a major upgrade for South Haven’s water system,” said Fewins. “It really demonstrates how USDA Rural Development can make infrastructure improvements that will last for decades.”
USDA Rural Development provided loans totaling $10,147,000 to the South Haven Area Water Sewer Authority to support the project, which centers around demolishing a century-old water standpipe and building a water tower with a capacity of 1 million gallons. The project leveraged more than $27.6 million from the State of Michigan’s Drinking Water Revolving Fund as provided through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and it will impact 5,090 rural households.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities, create jobs and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural, tribal and high-poverty areas.
