U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced a $71,204 grant award to the City of Warm Springs to develop and construct a downtown parking lot to increase customer traffic to local businesses. Funding comes from the Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) program, which promotes the development of small and emerging businesses in rural areas.

“This investment will foster an environment for economic growth and job creation,” said USDA Rural Development State Director Quinton Robinson.

The City of Warm Springs is home to a number of attractions such as President Roosevelt’s Little White House, FDR State Park, farms, hiking trails, wineries, small town shopping and a nearby covered bridge. Parking has been limited and inconvenient for visitors and tourists.  The new approximately 16,000 sq. ft. parking lot will be able to accommodate large tourist busses as well as much needed additional parking. It will assist five restaurants and nineteen businesses by allowing the possibility of increased foot traffic. Funding is contingent upon the recipient meeting the terms of the grant agreement.

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities.
