BISMARCK, N.D., Dec. 10, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development State Director Erin Oban today announced that USDA is investing over $1 million in rural communities across North Dakota to expand and strengthen rural infrastructure through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program.

"USDA Rural Development is an important partner in working beside small, rural communities and organizations to deliver essential services that allow people to thrive wherever they choose to live,” said Oban. “Today’s investment of nearly $1.5 million in water system infrastructure reaffirms these partnerships and will help improve the quality of life for residents in the City of Wing and throughout the Walsh Rural Water District.” Audio:MP3, 210KB, 0:24.

These investments are part of a nationwide announcement by USDA and includes the following North Dakota projects:

  • The Walsh Rural Water District will use a $608,000 loan to construct a new metered service line that will tie into the Northeast Regional Water District, along with necessary valves and other required items. This will benefit the over 1,400 users on the current system.

  • The City of Wing will use a $592,000 loan and a $208,000 grant to replace the wastewater lift station, rehabilitate the wastewater treatment lagoons, and improve one block of a wastewater collection system by disconnecting and removing a storm sewer inlet. This will benefit the 132 residents of the City of Wing.
