Area firefighters and emergency medical personnel have a new fire station in Macclenny. Macclenny city leaders and USDA Rural Development officials today joined together to dedicate the city’s new fire station.
The City of Macclenny secured a $1,675,800 in USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Loan to replace the fire station. Rural Development funds were used for the construction of a 12,000 square foot fire station and public safety building to replace the existing fire station which is deteriorating and obsolete.
“Providing rural communities with essential services such as public safety, and accessible facilities is a priority for Rural Development,” said USDA Rural Development State Director Richard A. Machek. “This new facility will provide firefighters with a safe and fully functional base of operation.”
USDA Rural Development Community Facility Loans and Grants provide funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas and towns with a population less than 20,000 for construction, enlargement and improvement for healthcare, education, public safety, and public services.
President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
