USDA Rural Development State Director Colleen Landkamer today visited senior living community Peace Village to celebrate the recently completed facility The Haven at Peace Village, expanding services for local residents.
“USDA strives to help rural communities provide aging populations with affordable, sustainable housing,” USDA Rural Development State Director Colleen Landkamer said. “The commitment to this population as well as disabled individuals is important to recognize and USDA was happy to partner with Peace Village and the City of Norwood Young America to help make this project a reality.”
Peace Village senior housing previously provided 36 studio and one-bedroom catered living units. The Harbor at Peace Village catered living provides a diverse mixture of amenities, personal services, and on-site healthcare services. Additionally, The Villa at Peace Village offers 61 spacious one and two bedroom apartments to individuals age 62 and above and individuals with disabilities.
The new 36,600 square feet assisted living facility expands current services with over 37 beds with 25 assisted living units and 12 memory care units. The Haven at Peace Village assisted living facility connects to The Harbor for increased and shared amenities. The new facility will eventually provide approximately 18 new jobs, and the entire Peace Village community now has a service range of more than 8,000 people.
Funding for the project came in the form of a $6,642,000 loan through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities (CF) Direct Loan program and $70,000 from the City of Norwood Young America.
Rural Development’s CF Direct Loan program finances essential buildings and equipment in rural areas of 20,000 people or less, including hospitals, fire halls, emergency response vehicles, libraries and community centers. Rural Development has invested over $431 million in essential community facilities and related equipment for rural communities throughout Minnesota since 2009.
In addition to community facility projects, the agency has programs to improve rural housing, infrastructure, high-speed Internet, business and other economic development projects.
