USDA Officials Visit Olivia, Minn. to Celebrate Grand Opening of New $24 Million Hospital/Clinic

USDA Rural Development State Director Colleen Landkamer, along with local, state, and national officials, today visited the Olivia, Minn. to help Renville County Hospital & Clinics celebrate the grand opening their new $23,475,000 hospital and clinic facility.

“Solid infrastructure and modern healthcare facilities play a key role in the economic sustainability of rural communities – attracting new businesses, retaining population and providing opportunities for future growth,” said Landkamer. “Not only will these services benefit the residents of the City of Olivia, but will address the regional healthcare needs of Renville and surrounding Counties for years to come.”

Renville County Hospital & Clinics serves over 15,000 residents throughout Renville County and the surrounding communities. The new 62,000 square feet facility in Olivia will allow for better recruitment and retention of staff, which currently consists of 140 people, making this the third largest business in Renville County.

The Olivia facility boasts a number Primary Care Clinic with 15 exam rooms and one procedure room; 16 in-patient hospital beds (including two Obstetrics and one Hospice); new lab, radiology, and therapy facilities; two operating rooms; Outpatient and Specialty Clinics; an education center, and land for future expansion.

Additionally, disability accessibility has been improved, facility operations have state of the art energy efficiency technology, there is on-site heliport, and patient services have been enhanced and expanded.

Funding for the facility came in the form of a $19 million USDA Rural Development Community Facilities direct loan and a $4,750,000 Community Facilities loan guaranteed through partnership with AgStar Financial Services. 

Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested over $401 million in essential community facilities such as hospitals, fire halls, emergency response vehicles, libraries and community centers for rural communities throughout Minnesota through the Community Facilities program. Rural Development also invests in housing, water and wastewater treatment, rural small business development and expansion, renewable energy and broadband.
