U.S. Department of Agriculture State Director for Rural Development Tony Logan today joined Trumbull County Commissioners and other community stakeholders in breaking ground on a $8,375,000 wastewater treatment project financed through the Agency’s Water and Environmental Program.

“For communities to grow and thrive, they need modern infrastructure and public services,” said Logan. “Not only will this state-of-the-art sewer system protect the environment, it also will increase economic development opportunities for Trumbull County residents for decades to come. New businesses will feel more confident in locating here, making it possible for the next generation of Kinsman area residents to stay here and raise their families.”

For more than a decade, the Kinsman Area of Trumbull County has endured a pollution problem caused by failing septic systems. The installation of the proposed new wastewater treatment plant and collection lines will eliminate health and safety hazards for residential and small business customers for years to come. Working with Rural Development and other partners, a $10,600,000 funding package was formulated to finance construction of the new plant.

“This project is part of a responsible and regional long-term Clean Water Act planning effort,” said Logan. “Rural Development’s support is a reminder of the importance of all USDA programs for rural America. A comprehensive new Food, Farm and Jobs Bill would further expand the rural economy. This is just one reason why Congress must work to get this legislation finished as quickly as possible.”

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
