Rural Development’s $6 million investment will assist in construction of new facilities and sports fields

ELIZABETH CITY, North CarolinaOctober 8, 2024 - Members of the USDA Rural Development Team participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies new shop facility and sports fields across nine acres of land today.

Rural Development invested $6 million through a USDA Community Facilities Loan to assist the charter school prepare the grounds for the installation of a 12 thousand square ft. pre-manufactured metal facility that will be utilized for shop classes.

“The educators at this academy are working hard every day to prepare their students for careers in a variety of careers and further education,” said Rural Development Area Director Shirlene Alexander. “I am excited about this investment Rural Development has made into the future of the students at Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies.”

According to the NEAAT website their students, … engage in real world, hands-on learning that challenges and prepares them for the future of work. In addition to innovative middle school classes, general and honors high school diploma and college transfer pathways, they offer very unique, specialized courses in the fields of aviation, IT, and healthcare.

USDA’s Community Facilities program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area, and does not include private, commercial or business undertakings.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities, create jobs and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural, tribal and high-poverty areas.
