SELMA, North Carolian-October 22, 2024- Members of the North Carolina USDA Rural Development team participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Boys and Girls Club, in Selma, today.

Rural Development invested a $665 thousand in Community Facility Disaster Grant funds to assist in the construction of the childcare facility.

The Boys and Girls Club of Selma delivers daily programming to more than 200 students ages 6-16. It is designed to help young people learn the skills and attitudes they need to grow academically, succeed in their chosen career, and give back to the community.

The new five thousand square foot building will facilitate operations and programs for kids in Selma, a low-income community.

“The Boys and Girls Club is known nationwide for providing programs that help develop the minds and character of future generations,” said a member of the North Carolina Rural Development Team. “The Rural Development Team is proud to be here and share in the excitement of the opening of this new facility that will serve the children and entire community of Selma.”

The project is an essential community facility that will continue to provide before and after school services and community meeting space for the rural residences of Selma, N.C.

The objective of the USDA Rural Development Community Facility Loans and Grants Program is to provide affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas.
