USDA Rural Development State Director Virginia Manuel has announced that Anson and Madison Water District will receive a Water and Waste Disposal Loan of $2,400,000 and Grant of $800,000 to replace aging infrastructure.

USDA Rural Development State Director Virginia Manuel said, “This vital funding will help improve the essential water infrastructure that serves approximately 1,600 households and 105 businesses and public facilities in the communities of Anson and Madison. This type of revitalization is necessary for communities to attract businesses and continue to invest in the quality of life of their rural residents.”

Rural Development funds which total $3.2 million will be used to replace sections of the transmission main. The 12 mile long transmission main carries both raw and treated water and is a significant component of the water system. Originally installed in 1948, the system is aged and upgrades are needed. This project will replace approximately 19,000 feet of the main. In addition the upgrades will assist the communities in continuing to provide adequate water and fire protection services to its residents.

Funding announced today is contingent upon the recipient meeting the terms of the loan and grant agreements.
