USDA Rural Development announces the funding of $4,012,000 to the City of Mitchell for the development of a new land application lagoon site, installation of a lift station and repairs to the main line collection system.

“The City of Mitchell is pleased to receive funding from USDA Rural Development for our new lagoon project.  This funding will allow the city to build a new lagoon and land application system that mitigates water quality problems with the current lagoon system enabling the city to meet state and federal mandates. Water quality issues with the city’s lagoon system have been a challenge for the city for more than a decade. This loan will allow the city to rectify the issues in the next two years,” said Mayor Brian Taylor, City of Mitchell.

“The City of Mitchell is under a Notice of Violation from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and must upgrade its wastewater facility and the USDA funds, at such a low interest rate, will allow them to bring the system up-to-date and into compliance without undue hardship on its citizens,” said USDA Rural Development Community Programs Specialist, Natalie Furrow.

The loan will be repaid over 40 years at 1.625 percent rate of interest.

The project was funded through the USDA Rural Development Water & Waste Disposal Loan program.  Visit:  http://www.rd.usda.gov/programs-services/water-waste-disposal-loan-grant-program/ne.
